Change…the word that strikes anxiety and fear in the hearts and minds of some but hope and anticipation in others.
I’ve been thinking about change all week actually; primarily because there have been some minor changes on the job front and it’s always interesting to see how personalities cope with a sudden change to the status quo.
However, I’ve also been thinking of my best friend Tara who got married recently. I was remembering conversations we had not quite five years ago and how our lives have changed since then. These have been good changes.
For the last several weeks here in the United Kingdom, Scotland has been abuzz with thoughts of independence from England and the rest of Great Britain. There are pro-independence supporters (the YES Campaign) and anti-independence supporters (the “Better Together” or NO Campaign). The debates have been lively and stirring on both sides.
Scotland was an independent country until it joined with England in the Act of Union in 1707 and created Great Britain. This of course later became the United Kingdom (Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland).
As someone who loves Political Science, this is definitely an event I am observing keenly and will remember for years to come.
The decision will be made tomorrow the 18th of September. I’m sure it will be well into the night after the votes have been tallied and the announcement made. Whichever way it swings…it will be an historic event.
Change is just about the only constant thing in life. It’s necessary for growth and development; on a personal level as well as social, national and even global.
We are not always prepared for change and things don’t always change in the direction we want them to but there is always something to be learned. Sometimes change causes us to learn our strengths and our weaknesses. It spurs us into action by serving as the proverbial “kick-in-the-butt” that we needed to do something we’ve been too afraid to do. It shows you who you are and what you’re made of.
There are times when change catches us off guard and times when we actively pursue it. Whatever change you’re going through right now…make it work for you. Take it and shape it in a way that’s beneficial to you if you can and if you can’t… take it and grow from it. You’re stronger than you think!
