NaPoWriMo Poetry Challenge Day 22
The prompt: “…write a poem in honor of Earth Day. This could be about your own backyard, a national park, or anything from a maple tree to a humpback whale.”
You give life
and you sustain life.
I honour you today and always.
You continue to nourish us
and give of yourself so freely
while we continue to use, abuse and take you
When will we realise that you’re the only one we’ve got
and we need to cherish you?
For you, for us and for future generations.
Sometimes you get angry with us
and dry up
or flood us with your tears.
I wish some of us would learn to honour you and
treat you well;
that they would stop poisoning your rivers, streams, oceans.
and life-sustaining soil.
We need you;
the birds of the air, fish in the sea and all the animals
and humans that call you home.
I honour you today Mother Earth.
