Hi readers, I’m back for Day 3 of the National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo) poetry challenge.
I’m a bit behind so I’m playing catch-up. 🙂
**For those who don’t know what NaPoWriMo is: http://www.napowrimo.net/
As usual, here is the prompt for today: “…I’d like to challenge you to write an elegy – a poem that mourns or honors someone dead or something gone by. ”
“I let You Go”
It was so sad knowing that
I had to say good-bye to you.
You were with me for a long time; twelve years.
Where does the time go?
I remember the very beginning; watching you grow and change
over the years.
You were with me…
my constant companion.
There were days when you annoyed me and
I just couldn’t get you to do right
those days were few.
Mostly, you were my companion,
of my personality and
even my security blanket.
But, as life goes
sometimes we go through evolutions
that require a rebirth,
a discarding of the familiar
and an embracing of change and “newness”.
So, I had to let you go; say good-bye.
But I just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed our time together
and perhaps one day
we’ll meet again.
